Artifact: Adapted Physical Education & Sport Top Down Framework
Date: Fall 2011
Reflection: In Adapted Physical Education & Sport, I worked with a student with many disabilities. He was non verbal, had ADD, and many behavioral issues. I created this top down framework in order to provide information on what sports I think the student could be successful in. Soccer is a sport he could play in the short term. Badminton and skiing are lifetime activities that he could participate in. He would need some accommodations to adapt to his disabilities. It is important for teachers to have the knowledge of how to work with these types of students. They need extra attention and help to perform. Many of these students need Individualized Education Plans. Working with this student made me more aware of adapted physical education and what it takes to become successful in this field.
Element 3.7: Plan and implement learning experiences that require students to appropriately use technology to meet lesson objectives.
Artifact: Basics of Effective Instruction in PE "Just Dance" Lesson Plan
Date: Spring 2011
Reflection: I taught this lesson using the Nintendo Wii game "Just Dance" as a way to teach students dancing skills. The students first learned the moves that the game requires for the song "Le Freak" by Chic. After learning these moves, four students played the game at a time while the rest of the class danced in back of them. Each student was given the opportunity to play. My affective objective for this lesson was to make sure students respected the equipment by wearing the straps on the controllers. I told students to do this before they played and all students complied. It is important for student to respect equipment so that other students are able to use the equipment. Broken equipment can lead to injuries and cost money to replace. This lesson is important because technology is becoming more and more a part of everyday life. Students are usually more likely to be involved in lessons where technology is used. Teaching students this dance by playing the song on a speaker could bore students. The game shows how well you did at the end of the dance which gives students extra incentive to perform.
